Frequency-time coherence for all-optical sampling without optical pulse source
Sampling is the first step to convert an analogue optical signal into a digital electrical signal. The latter can be further processed and analysed by well-known electrical signal processing methods. Optical pulse sources like mode-locked lasers are commonly incorporated for all-optical sampling, but have several drawbacks. A novel approach for a simple all-optical sampling is to utilise the fr...
متن کاملA wideband coherent terahertz spectroscopy system using optical rectification and electro-optic sampling
We present a scheme for exploiting the nonresonant second-order nonlinearities in electro-optic media to extend the bandwidth of coherent spectroscopy in the far-infrared using ultrafast laser pulses. Using optical rectification and electro-optic sampling in ^110& ZnTe for the generation and coherent detection of freely propagating THz radiation, respectively, we have demonstrated spectral sens...
متن کاملElectro-optic dual-comb vibrometry
We use an ultrafast electro-optic dual comb interferometer to perform single-point vibrometry on the submillisecond time scale. As an example, we resolve the vibration of an ultrasound speaker driven at 50 kHz, achieving a sub-nanometer axial resolution through a measurement of the optical phase carrier. OCIS codes: (320.7100) Ultrafast measurements; (120.6200); Spectrometers and spectroscopic ...
متن کاملSilicon-based monolithic optical frequency comb source.
We demonstrate the generation of broad-bandwidth optical frequency combs from a CMOS-compatible integrated microresonator. We characterize the comb quality using a novel self-referencing method and verify that the comb line frequencies are equidistant over a bandwidth of 115 nm (14.5 THz), which is nearly an order of magnitude larger than previous measurements.
متن کاملNoise suppression in Ti:sapphire laser-based electro-optic sampling
We show that intensity and phase noise are highly correlated in a mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser. This allows electro-optic sampling noise, degraded by the combination of 2184 dBc/Hz laser phase noise and birefringent system components, to be reduced 12 dB to the shot noise floor. Two multiorder waveplates can be combined to achieve shot-limited noise while preserving maximum detection efficienc...
